“You think your pain and your heartbreak are unprecedented in the history of the world, but then you read. It was books that taught me that the things that tormented me most were the very things that connected me with all the people who were alive, or who had ever been alive.”— James Baldwin
Rating: 8.5/10"He also stops every Wednesday, without fail, to buy her flowers from the stand across the street from the shop." "My life is all about cars. But there will only ever be one "baby" in my life, and you can bet your ass it won't have four wheels." "When I commit to something, I'm all in. That's how my mama raised me." ""I assumed that I was so desperate for him to look at me that way that I'd imagined the whole thing." | When I got to the part where Amy got pregnant I almost wanted to call it quits right there. It seems so cliche'd that a teenage girl is super happy and then gets pregnant. But I kept on reading. And for the most part it was a god story. Nate is basically the ideal guy, and I can only wonder what would have happened if he had just gotten the guts to mention the idea of going out with Amy to Dex a lot sooner. He didn't even have to say he wanted to act on his feelings, just that he had them. Dex probably would have warmed up to it and they could have been together a long time ago. As for Sadie, she's such a little sweetheart! I used to say I absolutely did not want kids ever. But recently, reading things like this, makes me waver in my opinions. Sadie is adorable. And the way she loves her mom and Nate and Dex unconditionally is something that I could see myself wanting in the future. The story overall was just enough frustration with the couple not getting together to make it interesting and not boring or all about Amy and Nate's will they won't they. But it was more than that. It dealt with pain with Teddy's death and Dex's struggle to return to a normal life after his time in the Marines. It dealt wit motherhood and conflict with Sadie and Duncan's betrayal. And it most importantly dealt with passion and the strength to never give up when you really want something in Nate and Amy's relationship. There may have been dumbs and bruises along the way, but everything turned out the way it was supposed to and was perfect in the end. But there was something lacking that prevented me from giving it a 10/10 or even a 9/10. There wasn't anything special about it I guess. And if I ever realize what it is, I'll be sure to let you know. |
