“What really knocks me out is a book that, when you're all done reading it, you wish the author that wrote it was a terrific friend of yours and you could call him up on the phone whenever you felt like it. That doesn't happen much, though.” — J.D. Salinger
Rating: 8.5/10"Thank you slutty funnel." "Kurt likes routine, and he always likes to know where he's going ahead of time." "The more things change, the more things stay the same." "After all this time?" "You read a lot." "Safer than going on a real adventure." "Whatever you suggest... I'll say yes. You'll definitely get a yes." "It doesn't matter. I'm with you. I'm happy to be anywhere with you." "I've always thought the best relationships are those that are as happy and content in silence as they are in action." | This one was cute. I liked Josh and Isla and Kurt and of course the guest appearances from the other characters in the first two books. However, it wasn't as good as St. Clair and Anna's story. But it was a little bit more enjoyable than Lola and Cricket's. I loved the fact tat Josh is an artist and spends most of his time expressing himself through that outlet. I also loved that he is a son of a senator. It just seemed to fit even though those two sides of him are complete opposites. One thing I can't get past though and that I hate every time it appears in a book is that fact that Isla decided Josh's feelings for him. She assumed he would stop loving her and was just filling the space with her. She put both of them through terrible heart break for nothing just because she assumed it would happen eventually! Never assume! Never! because most of the time I've found that people's assumptions are wrong! But alas, it all worked out in the end. Josh and Isla found their happily ever after and their Right Way. Which brings me to Kurt. I love that he's a character in this book. That he's best friends with Isla when she really needs a best friends and he's supportive of her even when she's doing things he doesn't exactly agree with. Plus his love for routine and planning is something we both have in common. There were other little things here and there that I loves, too. Like Isla's two quilts in New York and Paris of the opposite city to remind her of where her homes are. But there was one other thing I didn't like as much. I didn't get how Josh said he'd been in love with Isla since freshman year but it doesn't seem that way when he's with Rashmi or really at all during his junior year in Anna and the French Kiss. I don't doubt their love now, but it doesn't seem like it should have been as quick or effortless or meant-to-be in the beginning as it was. Update! One more thing, in a world where I've read so many books that most of the plots become predictable, I did NOT see that proposal coming! It was so cute and perfect for Anna and St. Clair. |
