“You get a little moody sometimes but I think that's because you like to read. People that like to read are always a little f----d up.” — Pay Conroy
Rating: 7.5/10"I don't believe in fashion. I believe in costume. Life is too short to be the same person every day." "I don't know what I did to deserve the world's strictest parents. I must have been seriously hardcore evil in a past life." "Cricket Bell is standing front and center, searching for something. Someone. And then his gaze locks onto mine, and his face alights like the stars." "It's maddening how someone so easy to read can be so impossible to understand." "Second hurts." "He sounds heartbroken, and the sound breaks mine." | There were part of this book I absolutely loved. And then there were parts I was just meh on. I loved Cricket. And I loved the appearances of St. Clair and Anna. And I loved the fact that Lola didn't care about being herself even if it was weird. And I really love San Francisco. But I'm having a hard time putting into words why I wasn't head-over-heels about this book. There was just something that didn't sit right. So I'll talk more about what I liked. I've always wanted a next-door neighbor that was a boy that I could get close with and be best friends with. I also liked that Lola was passionate about something with her costume making. Max never was my favorite, and I'm not certain why Lola was so hell-bent on being with him for the rest of time. And of course, as time went by, Max turned into more of a cockroach. I was almost shocked at how quickly he turned on her! It was so adorable how deeply in love Cricket was with Lola, and I got frustrated with Lola for not seeing that, haha! From the little gift with the moon and the stars to his story about Lola and him to him helping her when she was down and being there for her even when it pained him to do so, Cricket was perfect. Lindsey was also a good friend. She had her own drama and problems but always found time to help Lola with hers and always supported her. Plus she's into Nancy Drew and Veronica Mars, so she's basically awesome and I wish she was my best friend. So, it was a good, cute story, but there was some indescribably thing that I can't pinpoint that I can't name that I didn't like as much. But it was enough, which is enough for me. "His hems rise and reveal his socks. Blue and purple stripes." "Our hearts beat the same wild rhythm. They're playing the same song." "His hems rise and reveal his socks. Blue and purple stripes." "Our hearts beat the same wild rhythm. They're playing the same song. "Then Cricket Bell sees me, and the atmosphere lights up." "And if I'm the stars, Cricket Bell is entire galaxies." |
