“I cannot remember the books I've read any more than the meals I have eaten; even so, they have made me.” ― Ralph Waldo Emerson
Rating: 9.5/10 | I loved this book. It was so real and deep from the very first page that I couldn't put it down until every last page was read. I grew up loving baseball but we've grown apart a bit lately. This book renewed my love and made me start counting down the days until the season arrives again. How many days until pitchers and catchers report to spring training?? Anyway, the story above everything was so realistic. I know exactly what it's like to root for something so hard like Ryan and Nick do for the Cubs. You live and breathe the Cubs, and every good and bad thing that happens to the team you feel inside you. And, let me tell you that superstition is real! I think I loved this book so much because ti was so relatable and it made me feel real emotions that other books haven't really before. One thing I didn't care for was the third-person writing. It was weird how Ryan was referred to as Ryan but Mom was Mom and not her mom or something like that. At times it didn't bother me at all but others it stood out like a knick in the hardwood floor you don't notice until someone points it out and then you can never forget it. I also really want a definitive answer about what happens to Nick in the end. I'm not a fan of cliffhangers, especially when I know I'm not going to get a resolution. I'm not the best as reading comprehension, so this was a frustrating part. I also want to know if the Cubs won! I know in real life they didn't, but this was a fictitious novel despite all it's facts based in reality. But after everything, I loved it. I loved it so much. I'm almost certainly going to reread it when baseball season comes around, and I don't reread books often. It was just that good. It laughed, I cried, I sounded so cliché, but I don't even care. Read this book!!! (Plus I love the newly redesigned cover!) |
