“Sleep is good, he said, and books are better.” — George R.R. martin
Rating: 9/10"A shadow descended over me. I felt his lips brush my forehead." "Sawyer grinned brilliantly at me when I came in." "I wanted to kiss him — not a show of lust, but of appreciation. I would get us both in hot water, though. I only kissed my finger and placed it on his lips. He looked shocked for a moment. But as I pulled my hand away, he said solemnly, 'I know. I feel that way too.'" "I was all sassed out." | The quote above couldn't be more perfect for how I felt about this book! It was another night of staying up until 4 a.m. reading. The story seemed to fly by. There weren't any dull parts or skimming on my side or even page checking to see how many I had left or if the end was coming soon. I didn't think I would like this installment of the superlatives series. I'm not sure why, but it didn't seem as much my cup of tea. However, after meeting Sawyer in Perfect Couple an getting to know him more, I fell. He might have come from a not-so-great family, but he's such a great, hard-working guy. I love the fact that he falls head-over-heals for Kaye and never gave up on her. He's goofy and romantic and sensitive even though he might not love showing that side of him all the time. Most importantly, he cares. And then there's Kaye. Who I felt I could relate to. Her mom's out-of-control controlling contrasted with her mellow father. The stark differences worked so well and was a great example of how two people who are completely different can actually be great together. Kaye's (or partly her mother's) need for perfection is a struggle I know all too well and loved reading a story about someone who deals with that conflict as well as just wanting to be an ordinary teenager. Balancing wanting to have everything figured and planned out with just having fun is a hard thing to do. At one point she says it's tiring trying to do the exact right thing all the time. No truer statement was said. |
