“Books are the quietest and most constant of friends; they are the most accessible and wisest of counselors, and the most patient of teachers.” — Charles William Eliot
Rating: 9/10"Everybody saw the same thing, but a photographer framed it to focus on one object in particular, telling a certain story." "Because regular meal times meant nothing and calories didn't count on holidays." "Christmas day might as well be Halloween because it's like we're going from house to house, trick-or-treating." "The waves rolled in and spilled out. The planet was breathing." "The world is beautiful exactly like it it. You just have to know how to frame it and bring it into focus." "You're a photographer. You make your own luck." | I stayed up until 3 a.m. reading this book. And everything about it was good, it just wasn't amazing, so no perfect score for Perfect Couple (I couldn't resist). Anyway, this was your classic story about two people who don't get along at first and are basically complete opposites but then end up realizing they're meant for each other. It's also about people in relationships who realize those people they're with are jut completely wrong. One thing that really hooked me with the story was Harper's love for Photography. It was super relatable for me because I love it too and was really able to connect with her. As for Kennedy, he annoyed the crap out of me! It was one of those situations where the reader can absolutely without a doubt obviously tell he's being a huge douche bag but Harper is clueless or comfortable or just liking the fact that she's with someone. But why be with someone you ignores you and criticizes you the majority of the time you're together. Not me, that's for sure! I'm always a sucker for the type of character Brody portrayed. On the outside everyone sees him as a jock but Harper starts to get to see the sensitive and vulnerable side of him, which makes you fall in love with him just a little bit as well. I also liked the setting being in Florida. I feel like a lot of books I read are set up north or out west and not many down south and especially in Florida. The tropical storm, humidity and heat was definitely something I've experienced before and could feel for Will when he was out on that beach suffering through it! Overall, the fact that Harper was a photographer, into journalism and a little bit nerdy and artistic pushed the story over the edge in terms of lovability for me. Had her hobby been something different, I'm not sure I would have taken to it as much as I did. |
