“Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly -- they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced.” — Aldous Huxley
Rating: 8/10"One day he was Beau, my best friend. The next day he was just my boyfriend's cousin." "I could relax here. This was Grana. She didn't expect me to be perfect. She just wanted me to be happy." "I just wanted to go read a steamy romance novel and live in the fictional pages for a little while." "She'd barely covered up her long tanned legs with a pair of shorts that made me want to go to church this Sunday just to thank God for creating her." "She'd been my partner in crime, the one person I told all my dreams and fears to, my soul mate." "My heart may be black, but it was still capable of heart failure." | For the most part, this story was great. The love Beau feels for Ashton is unreal and so sweet for someone with such a hard outer shell. Ash, Beau and Sawyer have been best friends since they were kids. Beau has always had more of a connection with her but when they were finally old enough to have feelings toward each other, Sawyer swept her up before Beau even had a chance. Beau is seen as the bastard child of the town. He's a disgrace to the Vincent family and Ash's parents, the town preacher and his wife, don't approve, saying his bad behavior will rub off on her. So they become estranged and Ash and Sawyer seem to live happily ever after without Beau to mess things up. But Ash isn't herself when she's with Sawyer. She's the perfect daughter, the perfect student and the perfect girlfriend. But while Sawyer is away for the summer, Beau and Ash rekindle their friendship and realize just why they were so close before. Sawyer is like a brother to Beau, but his love for Ash runs deeper than familial blood. The scenes between Beau and Ash were hot. But I don't exactly like the way they went about their actions. Just thinking from Sawyer's perspective, he forgave them awfully fast for someone who had his brother-cousin steal away his long-time girlfriend. There's also the small fact that I didn't read it for, like, a week before finishing it, but I'm willing to forget that part since the chemistry between Beau and Ash was so strong. But overall it was great. I always enjoy stories with alternating points of view. And in the end, everything worked out and that wha I like best. Happy endings. "I liked the idea of her feeling anything more than friendship toward me, even if I'd never be good enough for her." "I couldn't say ti like that. She'd see too much. I had to protect myself." "she had Mr. Perfect, and she wanted me instead. Doesn't make any sense." |
